Tele-health Therapy
Maybe you’re looking to explore, make sense of, or acquire new skills in relation to a major life event, to improve your relationships, or heal grief, trauma, or difficult experiences. All of these reasons, and more, are why I became a therapist. And, why I love my work. I also employ and supervise associate therapists in my practice.
This website provides an introduction to me and my associate therapists, so you can learn more about us and decide if you’d like to reach out to determine for yourself whether we’d be a good fit for your therapy journey. We offer complimentary consults.

My Psychotherapy Approach
I believe first and foremost in our power to heal and transform. This is a strengths-based approach that keeps in mind and centers what makes you uniquely you and identifies your strengths, while maintaining a commitment to expanding them.
The goal is an improved sense of self, improved relationships, and the ability to better tolerate all that life throws at us.
My approach is direct and I incorporate family of origin and attachment styles, mindfulness and body awareness, insight and psychodynamic work, with a commitment to social justice and the role systems have played in our sense of self and mental health.
I also utilize trauma reprocessing and EMDR, as appropriate.
Therapy is not meant to always “feel good.” In fact, it’s difficult work meant for the courageous heart, which may unearth big, uncomfortable feelings. I am here to support and guide you through to places of relief, insight, and transformation.

Your therapy journey is about you. AND, it’s important to know who is in the room with you as you take this journey. While therapists need to maintain strong therapeutic boundaries, it’s also important to me that you know not only my training and background, but also that I am human, and that I am having a human experience, just like you.
I’m Brittny McCarthy, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (CA #128352 + CO #2073). My MFT is from the University of Southern California.
More than 20 years of yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices inform my therapeutic work, as well as a professional career for more than a dozen years in education policy, advising members of Congress, university Presidents, researchers, and other policy leaders. If your work or personal life is high stakes and high stressed, I am familiar.
As a believer in lifelong learning, I continue my studies in therapeutic approaches and interventions, as well as ongoing personal insight through my own therapy, and mindfulness and yoga practices. I share resources, books, podcasts, the latest research, and other information as appropriate and to the extent clients are interested.
My private practice also employs therapists in training. I love collaborating with other therapists and supervising their development into licensed clinicians.
Finally, perhaps nearest and dearest to my heart and life’s work, I am a mother, healing my own inner child through mindfulness-based (re)parenting.
“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience. ”
Associate Marriage Family Therapists
Rachel Adler,
AMFT #144944
I believe that you are the expert on your life, and that we all have the capacity to access a deeper level of knowing and connection to ourselves and our own healing. My job as a therapist is to provide the environment and the tools to empower you on this journey.
Who is an Associate Therapist?
I am proud to employ in my private practice associate MFTs who are working towards their licensure. As clinicians we align in our approach to therapy. As pre-licensed psychotherapists, they receive direct supervision by me, have completed their degrees, and are in the process of completing their clinical hours. They can see clients online or in person.
Mary Kate Hurlbutt,
AMFT #143861
I’m passionate about approaching our work together in a way that invites you to connect to the most empowered vision and story of yourself. I also understand the importance of honoring and exploring all the complexities and emotions that make your lived experience unique to you. Together we’ll create a warm, non-judgemental atmosphere where you can feel seen and heard as your authentic self.
Lee Daly,
AMFT #153086
What if you could take small steps for big gains that would get you out of bed every morning enjoying life with a renewed sense of enthusiasm? And, you could do this without having to suffer through painful therapy sessions keeping you stuck for years! I will inspire you by creating an environment that’s not a therapeutic drag; you will look forward to your sessions as I encourage you to break patterns and use your innate strengths to guide you.
