The Lessons in Death

When someone we know or love leaves their body it's often a time to reflect, to create meaning, and to be reminded of how precious our breath really is.

If we choose, we can be reminded that our life is ours to live in freedom and without blame. As I fly to be with one of my nearest and dearest as she grieves the death of her father, this moment is a reminder for me to stop avoiding my freedom and learn to risk using it. It takes great courage and responsibility. But that's what it means to be human. Risk using your freedom. Create your life rather than being a victim to it.

Thank you, Mike, for living life the way you did, for giving me such a beautiful friend in Linnea, and for teaching me how to eat an artichoke. You will be missed here on earth but you live on in those whose lives you touched.
